Lambda nine point seven CS, Onslaught FastCap, Taurus SC, Niban, Entice, and Alpine WSG cover many common household and structural pests but do not reliably control every pest you will encounter in the field.
Lambda nine point seven CS is a potent synthetic pyrethroid suspension concentrate best for crawling insects and certain flying insects but it is not effective against established rodent infestations and has limited efficacy against bed bugs when used alone because bed bugs often hide in voids and can have pyrethroid resistance. Onslaught FastCap targets a broad spectrum of insects including fleas and ticks when applied to carpets and resting surfaces, yet it will not eliminate bird mites or persistent stored product pests without incorporating dusts or fumigants. Taurus SC offers a residual pyrethroid option for perimeter and crack and crevice work but does not provide instantaneous control of stinging insects in nests nor is it labeled for use in some food handling areas, so use an appropriate labeled aerosol or foaming nest treatment for wasps and hornets. Niban and Entice are baits aimed at ant and cockroach management respectively and are highly effective for bait-susceptible populations, however they will fail on bait-shy or nonforaging senescent colonies and on many species of stored product beetles, so rotate active ingredients and include nonbait contact methods. Alpine water soluble granule is a desiccant and stomach poison useful for a variety of pests and organic centric accounts, but it is not labeled or practical for deep structural wood destroying organisms such as drywood termites or for large outdoor mosquito source reduction, where larvicides and habitat modification are required. Always read each product label for exclusions, maximum allowed sites, reentry times, and target species to avoid off label use.
Common mistakes begin with assuming a single product will handle all calls; the fix is to perform a targeted inspection, identify the pest, and choose a product or combination that matches label claims. Another issue is neglecting resistance patterns and bait aversion, which you can address by rotating modes of action and using complementary physical or mechanical controls. A third frequent error is applying residuals in inappropriate sites like food preparation surfaces or inside voids where they are not labeled; prevent this by carrying a range of formulations and consulting labels on scene before treatment.
We run BigHomeProjects dot com to connect homeowners with local contractors and to help contractors find work related to pest and home improvement projects. We also host a discussion community where users and professionals share practical experiences, product limitations, and alternative strategies so we can all learn from real world situations.
