Freezing and heat transfer fluid degradation cause leaks and loss of performance in cold climates, so use a closed-loop antifreeze mixture with appropriate non corrosive inhibitors and annual fluid checks to maintain freeze protection. Finally, poorly tuned controllers and excessive pump runtime waste electricity and shorten component life, so set differential on and off thresholds carefully, enable night lockouts when appropriate, and test that the pump only runs when there is useful thermal gain.
