Use high tack adhesive ribbons in less trafficked areas where flies congregate such as near windows, trash cans, and garage doors, and hang them at eye level for flies which typically fly about four to six feet off the ground. Cut strips from a longer roll if you need shorter pieces but always keep the exposed sticky surface covered with the supplied sleeve until placement to avoid contamination. For kitchens keep ribbons at least three feet away from any food preparation or storage surfaces and never above open dishes, and in garages hang them clear of tools and oily surfaces to maintain adhesion. Replace ribbons when they are densely covered or their adhesive fails which usually occurs after about two to three weeks in heavy fly conditions. Combine ribbon placement with basic sanitation such as removing standing organic waste, securing trash containers, and repairing torn screens to reduce fly breeding and limit new arrivals. If household members prefer, choose scented ribbons to mask attractants or unscented for neutral odor and always place out of reach of children and pets and behind doors or on rafters if possible.

The three common mistakes are hanging ribbons too close to food, leaving saturated ribbons in place too long, and relying on ribbons alone while ignoring sanitation. When hung above food there is a risk of debris falling onto surfaces so move strips at least three feet away and never over food prep areas. If you leave a fully covered ribbon it becomes less effective and can drip or shed debris so replace it as soon as it loses tack or appears loaded. Relying solely on ribbons lets breeding sites persist so pair sticky strips with cleaning, removing organic waste, fixing leaks, and screening vents and windows to reduce fly populations long term.
