Finally, test the connection by running the fan and feeling for leaks with your hand and a soap solution or tissue; rewrap or retighten if you detect air movement.

Common mistakes start with picking the wrong clamp such as a narrow band or zinc-plated clamp that will cut into insulation or corrode; choose a four-inch stainless steel worm gear clamp with a one quarter inch band width instead.
