High and low surfaces in a restroom are the most commonly missed spots during cleaning.
Start by working top to bottom and left to right so nothing is skipped. Dust vents and light fixtures collect greasy dust and require a microfiber duster or a vacuum with a soft brush; remove covers when possible and wipe with a disinfectant, then dry thoroughly. Door hinges and the tops and undersides of stall doors should be wiped with a disinfectant wipe and a small brush to remove buildup in crevices. Under sinks and around pipe covers often harbor dust, leaks, and mold so pull back removable panels, dry any moisture, treat mold with an appropriate cleaner, and place an absorbent mat if needed. Behind toilets is a high germ area that needs a disinfectant spray and a long-handled brush or disposable cloth to reach and dry to prevent corrosion. Light switches and outlet covers are high-touch points, so remove covers when allowed, clean both sides, and ensure power is off before touching exposed wiring. Finally, perform lateral wipe-downs of partitions, grab bars, soap dispensers, and the backs and undersides of paper towel dispensers using an approved disinfectant and a fresh cloth for each surface to avoid cross contamination.
People often miss vents and high fixtures because they are out of sight and require stepping stools or extendable tools, so use a stable step stool and an extendable duster and include those tasks on your checklist. Hinges and small crevices are skipped because cleaners rely on broad cloths, so carry a small detailing brush or old toothbrush and a spray bottle of disinfectant to loosen debris before wiping. Under-sink areas are neglected due to clutter and perceived access issues, so schedule a periodic clear-out, inspect for leaks, and fold a disposable liner or tray under plumbing to detect and contain drips.
