Use common household items to clean a shower quickly and effectively when you need a fast, low-cost solution.

Start by mixing equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle to break down soap scum and mineral deposits. For ceramic tile and glass, spray liberally, let sit for five to ten minutes, then wipe with a microfiber cloth or a nonabrasive sponge to avoid scratches. For grout and tight corners, use an old toothbrush dipped in baking soda paste made by stirring baking soda with a little water until it is spreadable, scrub gently, then rinse with a cup of warm water. For greasy residue or body oils, add a few drops of liquid dish soap to warm water and scrub with a sponge; dish soap cuts oils better than vinegar alone. For mildew or stubborn mold, saturate the area with straight white vinegar, wait ten to fifteen minutes, scrub with the toothbrush and rinse thoroughly; ventilate the bathroom and wear gloves if you have sensitive skin. After cleaning, squeegee or towel dry surfaces to reduce future buildup and store the spray bottle and toothbrush together so you can repeat the routine weekly.

People often scrub too hard and damage grout seals, so use soft brushes and moderate pressure and recaulk if grout is failing. Another common issue is not rinsing thoroughly so residues from vinegar or baking soda leave streaks, so always rinse with a cup or more of warm water and wipe dry. Finally, many try to treat heavy scale as a quick job and get poor results, so allow longer dwell time for strong deposits and repeat treatments over a couple of sessions if needed.
